How Installation Works

Every Vital Arms product is designed to install cleanly and predictably when done correctly. Each step below has a short, dedicated video walking through the exact sequence, the tools required, and what to watch for. These guides are built to remove guesswork and prevent avoidable issues.

If you're not comfortable working on firearms, we recommend seeking assistance from a qualified gunsmith. Correct installation matters — for performance, safety, and long-term reliability.

What You'll Need

Installation uses basic gunsmithing tools, not specialty equipment:

  • A punch pin and armorer's hammer — required for backstrap and tungsten weight installation or removal
  • The tools already required for standard Echelon maintenance — for COG removal and reinstallation

Nothing here requires a press, a vise, or professional-grade equipment. If you already field-strip and maintain your Echelon, you have what you need.

Before You Start: Magazine Compatibility

The Meridian grip module is sized for larger-handed shooters, and that means it requires a full-size magazine to feed and seat correctly — the same requirement Springfield built into their own Echelon 4.0FC, which pairs a full-size grip with a shorter slide and ships standard with a 17-round magazine for exactly this reason.

Stock Echelon compact (15-round) magazines are not compatible with the Meridian system on their own. Your magazine needs to be at least as long as a stock 17-round Echelon magazine to function properly.

If you carry with a compact magazine, a full-size basepad extension from a third-party manufacturer — such as Floyd's Custom Shop — can bring it up to compatible length. Vital Arms does not currently manufacture this part; we're building our own version, planned for release in Q4 2026.

A note for capacity-restricted states: if your state limits you to a 10-round magazine, the same solution applies — a third-party base extension fills the physical length gap without adding capacity. Your magazine still holds exactly 10 rounds; nothing about round count changes, only the length needed to seat properly in the Meridian's full-size grip.

Magazine capacity is regulated at the state level and varies by jurisdiction. Check your state's current law before purchasing any accessory that interacts with your magazine.

The Six Steps

Step 1: Remove Your COG & Magazine Release

Your Vital Arms module is a housing, not a complete pistol. The first step is removing the Central Operating Group (COG) and magazine release from your stock Echelon. This is the same regulated component your Echelon already ships with — you're relocating it, not replacing it.

Step 2: Install Your COG & Magazine Release into the Meridian Module

Your COG transfers directly into the Meridian grip module. The module itself contains no fire control components — no sear, disconnector, or hammer — so this step is a clean, direct transfer with no modification required.

Step 3: Install Your Backstrap and Weights

Choose Neutral or Control, and set your tungsten weight configuration — 12g, 19g, or a mix of both. This step requires a punch pin and armorer's hammer. The video walks through the exact process for a clean, secure fit.

Step 4: Install Your Grip Panels

Core, Plus, or Max — sized independently per side, so left and right don't have to match. Mix and match to fit your hand exactly.

Step 5: Install Your Magwell

Carry or Competition, both engineered for a snap fit with zero air gap against the grip module.

Step 6: Install Your Basepad

Basepads pair flush with your magwell, no gap.
