FIT, COMPATIBILITY & INSTALLATION
Do I need a gunsmith, or can I install this myself?
Most owners install their Meridian system themselves using basic tools. If you're not comfortable working on firearms, we recommend a qualified gunsmith — correct installation matters for performance and safety. Full walkthroughs live on our Installation & Fitment page.
What tools do I need?
A punch pin and armorer's hammer for backstrap and tungsten weight installation. If you already maintain your own Echelon, you likely already have what you need.
Do my magazines work with this?
The Meridian system requires a magazine at least as long as a stock 17-round Echelon magazine — the same requirement Springfield built into their own 4.0FC, since a full-size grip paired with a shorter slide needs a full-size magazine to feed and seat correctly either way. Stock compact (15-round) magazines need a basepad extension to seat correctly, and the same applies if your state limits you to a 10-round magazine — a third-party seating block fills the length gap without adding any capacity. Will my holster still fit after I install this?
The Meridian system is designed to maintain standard holster compatibility — closed-bottom holsters for the 4.0FC, open-bottom for the 4.5F, matching each build's typical use case. If your holster feels loose or overly tight after installation, check your holster's tension screws first — most holsters are adjustable, and a small tension adjustment often resolves a fit that feels slightly off. That said, we haven't tested every holster on the market, so we can't guarantee fit with every model. One clear exception: if you mount a large or oversized light on the module's Picatinny rail, holster fit becomes specific to your unique build, and we can't speak to compatibility for that configuration. If you run into a fitment issue we haven't seen yet, tell us — we're building this list from real feedback, not guessing at it in advance.
Am I transferring my own COG, or does this come as a complete pistol?
Your Meridian kit is a grip module and accessory system — not a complete pistol. You'll need your existing Echelon's Central Operating Group (COG), magazine release, slide, and a full-size, 17-round magazine to complete your build; the kit provides everything else. Does this work with aftermarket triggers?
The Meridian system is compatible with your stock Echelon trigger, and we've specifically tested and confirmed compatibility with Powder River Precision and Tyrant Designs. We haven't tested every aftermarket trigger on the market, so we can't guarantee compatibility beyond those. If you run into an issue with a trigger we haven't tested, tell us — we're building this list from real feedback, not guessing at it in advance.
Do I need to use the included Loctite?
Yes. Every Founders Kit includes Blue Loctite, and it should be applied to your grip panel screws (two per side, four total) and your magwell screw (one total) during installation. This keeps hardware from backing out under recoil over time.
For best results, let the thread locker cure for 24 hours before firing.

What's actually in the Grip Module?
Your Meridian grip module (4.0FC or 4.5F) ships with the Neutral backstrap and Core grip panel set installed, plus hardware and Loctite. Everything else — Control backstrap, Plus and Max panels, magwells, and tungsten weights — is sold separately, so you can build at your own pace.
What material are the components made from, and why?
7075-T6 aluminum — roughly triple the strength-to-weight ratio of mild steel, machines cleanly to tight tolerances, and keeps the base system light so weight can be added exactly where it's wanted. Grip panels are also available in brass (C360), which weighs roughly three times as much as the aluminum version — that added mass sits in the hand rather than out front, pulling the center of gravity back for a more controlled, consistent point of aim.
How much does a fully built module weigh?
The bare grip module alone weighs 6.98 oz (4.0FC) to 7.078 oz (4.5F) — nearly identical between sizes. From there, it depends entirely on how you configure it — that's the point of a tunable system. A stripped-down build (Core aluminum panels, no added weight) comes in around 9 oz. A maxed-out build (Max brass panels, both 19g weights, full accessories) runs closer to 17 oz. Everything in between is yours to dial in.
How does the tungsten weight system work?
Two weight sizes — 12g and 19g — install in pairs in the backstrap pockets. Mix and match for five configurations, from 0g (stock feel) up to 38g, tuning recoil management and point of aim to your hand and shooting style.
Can I mix and match sizes — different panels per side, for example?
Yes. Panel size is selected independently per side, so your grip doesn't have to be symmetrical if your hands aren't.
I expected raw, shiny brass — why does mine look more matte?
Every brass panel we ship is finished in Cerakote H122 to meet lead-exposure compliance standards in all 50 states, including California. Raw brass carries trace lead, and rather than sell a panel that's legal in most states but not all, we coat every unit — no exceptions. You still get full brass weight and warm brass tone, just with a low-luster finish instead of a mirror shine.
Can I get the shiny, raw brass look back?
Yes. The Cerakote finish can be buffed or polished off at home with standard polishing compound or fine steel wool. This is a personal preference change — we ship every panel coated for compliance, and what you do with it afterward is up to you. That said, we don't recommend this because it voids warranty.
CHOOSING & ORDERING
Which kit is right for me?
Start with intent: 4.0FC for carry, 4.5F for competition. Everything else — grip angle, panel size, weight — is tuned the same way regardless of which you choose.
Can I upgrade to brass panels after ordering, or only at checkout?
Brass is selected at checkout. If you'd like to change your selection before your kit ships, contact us directly and we'll help.
Why is this priced higher than other Echelon aftermarket options?
Most Echelon grip modules give you one grip angle, one panel size, and one magwell option. Ours is $24 more than the market standard, and that $24 buys the architecture: two grip angles, three panel sizes, a choice of two magwells, and a tunable weight system, all built to work together from day one. You're not locked into what ships in the box — you decide where it goes from here.
LEGAL & COMPLIANCE
Is this legal in my state?
Vital Arms grip modules and accessories are unregulated, non-serialized components — the fire control components remain in your Echelon's existing serialized housing. Magazine capacity is regulated separately at the state level; check your state's current law if that applies to you.
Is there anything different about ordering to California?
Yes. California's AB 1263 requires identity and age verification, a signed legal notice, and address-matched, signature-required delivery for firearm accessory orders shipped to California. We've built all of this into checkout — nothing extra for you to do beyond verifying your ID as prompted. Your Founders Kit will require an adult signature on delivery.
Are these parts regulated, or do they require an FFL transfer?
No FFL transfer is required. Grip modules, backstraps, panels, magwells, and weights contain no fire control components and are classified as unregulated accessories.
What if my state restricts magazine capacity?
See our note on Installation & Fitment — a third-party seating block can bring a compliant magazine up to the length the Meridian system requires, without changing its capacity. A Vital Arms–native version is planned for Q4.
